We're not just looking for merchandising ideas from our associates. Our latest effort is a program calledYes We Can, Sam!which, by the way, I did not name. Again, we invite hourly associates who havecome up with money-saving ideas to attend our Saturday morning meeting. So far, we figure we've savedabout $8 million a year off these ideas. And most of them are just common-sense kinds of things thatnobody picks up on when we're all thinking about how big we are. They're the kinds of things that comefrom thinking small. One of my favorites came from an hourly associate in our traffic department who gotto wondering why we were shipping all the fixtures we bought for our warehouses by common carrierwhen we own the largest private fleet of trucks in America. She figured out a program to backhaul thosethings on our own trucks and saved us over a half million dollars right there. So we brought her in,recognized her good thinking, and gave her a cash award. When you consider that there are 400,000 ofus, it's obvious that there are more than a few good ideas out there waiting to be plucked. He would drive Isola to the door of the English cemetery, leave her there, and return at her bidding to take her home again. Disney knew she was safe when this veteran had her in charge. The man was well known in the Piazza, and of established character for honesty. She took a book or two in her light basket, buying a handful of flowers here and there from the women and children as she went along, till the books were hidden under roses and lilac. Tho custodian of the cemetery knew her, and admitted her without a word. He had watched her furtively once or twice, to see that she neither gathered the flowers nor tried to scratch her name upon the tombs. He had seen her sitting quietly by the slab which records Shelley's death鈥攁nd the death of that faithful friend who was laid beside him, sixty years afterwards. Sixty years of loving, regretful memory, and then union in the dust. Shall there not be a later and a better meeting, when those two shall see each other's faces and[Pg 253] hear each other's voices again, in a world where old things shall be made new, where youth and its wild freshness shall come back again, and Trelawney shall be as young in thought and feeling as Shelley? 色姑娘综合网久久,天天啪天天舔天天射,婷婷我去也,俺去也,五月婷婷 The various sale departments at the Stores were thronged all day from morning to night during this week before Christmas with crowds of purchasers, but the correspondence on business matters, such as engaged Norah, fell off as the holidays approached, and next morning, when she arrived, she found not more than a dozen letters for her to open. Charles, however, was being worked off his feet in the book-department, where were a hundred types of suitable Christmas gifts (the more expensive being bound in stuffed morocco, so that the sides of them resembled flattish{185} cushions) and Norah intended, as soon as she had finished her shorthand transcription, to proceed at once with the typewriting, and then ask leave of Keeling to go and help her brother. He arrived but a few minutes after her, and in half an hour her shorthand dictation was finished. I went out too late, I'm afraid; but I was so tired of waiting for you. A kind of horror of the house and the silence came upon me鈥攁nd I felt I must go out into the[Pg 245] woods. I walked too far鈥攁nd fell asleep from sheer fatigue; and when I woke I saw a yacht fighting with the wind. I'm afraid she'll go down. In the early days, it wasn't anything like what it's turned into now, which is the largest, most raucousstockholders' meeting in the world. But it was different. After the meeting on Saturday, we always had aspecial event. One year it was a golf tournament, which is not all that unusual, I guess. But another yearwe went fishing on Bull Shoals Lake. And another year we took everybody on a float trip down SugarCreek. The wildest event I remember was when we all went camping overnight in tents on the banks ofSugar Creek. That was a real fiasco. Remember now, these are a bunch of investment analysts from thebig cities. Well, a coyote started howling, and hoot owls hooting, and half of these analysts stayed up allnight around the campfire because they couldn't sleep. We decided it wasn't the best idea to trysomething like this with folks who weren't accustomed to camping on the rocks in sleeping bags.
